“Wonder Boy”
San Andres is Asian Supercross 85cc king
|
Kenneth San Andres of Caltex-Revtex used to be just the
Philippines’ best young rider.
In the 2003 FlM Supercross Championship, San Andres became Asia’s greatest.
San Andres, who earned the moniker “Wonder Boy” due to his outstanding
motocross exploits, clinched first place overall in 85cc junior division of
the the FIM series’ final leg at the Guam International Circuit, Guam, USA.
The multi-titled 14-year-old Philippine Sportswriters Association awardee
actually ranked third place in the first heat, as he had to battle his way
through the nine-rider field with stomach cramps.
But the six-time national mini-class rider of the year bounced back with a
vengeance in the second heat, shoving Sean Lipanovich and Shane Morrison to
the backseat with a mighty first-place finish to clinch the overall junior
title.
He beat his closest pursuer by 13 seconds, which in motocross standards is
quite an impressive feat.
“In the first race, he was inhaling and exhaling the wrong way, which led to
his cramps,” said Kenneth’s father Jun-Jun, himself a Revtex rider. “But I
made sure his breathing was rigth in the second race. Of course, the kid rose
to the challenge and ran a great race.”
San Andres, who waved the Philippine flag around the track after his title
triumph, was appointed by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety
Association to banner the Philippines with Revtex teammate Glenn Aguilar in
the 10-nation event.
“We should all be proud of his feat because he proved that he can be Asia’s
best young rider,” said Caltex Revtex manager Ner Marquez Dormiendo, who
accompanied the riders to the Guam meet, with another Caltex manager Paul
Familara and UAM president Macky Carapiet.
This is the third fourth time this year that San Andres took part in the FIM
event.

FOR YOUR CELLPHONE SECURITY:
Text 682 or Text NTC is another alternative way of reporting
lost/stolen cell phones. Project Text 682 aims to prevent and eventually
eliminate the problem of mobile cell phone theft. Through a string of SMS
commands, TEXT 682 will enable mobile phone subscribers to prevent anyone
from using a stolen or lost mobile phone by blocking the IMEI of the said
phone. Once a mobile phone is blocked, it cannot be used anymore even if the
SIM card is replaced. Likewise, if the stolen phone is returned to the
rightful owner, he/she will be able to automatically unlock the IMEI of the
said mobile phone.
For SMART/Talk & Text, Globe and Touch Mobile Subscribers:
REGISTER: First step is to register to TEXT 682. Registration is valid for
one year. To find out the IMEI of your mobile phone, simply type *#06# or
look for it on the printed compliance plate under the battery.
To register, simply type: REG_<CELL_PHONE_NUMBER>_<IMEI>_
<PINCODE> and send to 682
BLOCKING THE PHONE
You must block your phone as soon as you learn it is lost or stolen. You may
use any GSM phone to BLOCK a cellular phone.

CODE> and send to 682.
UNDOING THE REGISTRATION OF THE PHONE
